Meritage Vocal Arts is a highly respected community chorus based in Anaheim with a long history of presenting the finest choral music from classical masterworks, pop and theatre songs, to modern-day classical and popular composers. Their vision includes building a pathway for talented singers from high school, through college, and onwards into finding the life-long joy of song. Dr. Brian Dehn has been engaged in student choral work and festivals for over 25 years, including 15 years as a high-school choral director.

Unique Opportunity

  • On Friday, March 15, 2024, Meritáge will be hosting 10 choirs that will perform before an esteemed group of adjudicators. Save your spot today!
  • Nothing like this currently exists in Southern California and, as partners with you in elevating our community, we are excited to start this new avenue for excellence in the choral arts.
  • Not only will each choir perform for each other, but they will sing together, and hear Meritáge Vocal Arts Ensemble. 
  • There is an exciting sight-reading portion that will allow each school to showcase the strength of their musical educational program.

Your adjudicators

Subject to confirmation your adjudicators will be

  • Dr. Sheridan Ball, Professor Emeritus, Cypress College
  • Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe, Professor of Choral and Sacred Music, USC
  • Dr. Chris Peterson, Professor of Music, CalState Fullerton

Ratings will be a cumulative score based on musical and sight-reading scores from two distinct sections of the festival.

Students will also have a vote in the selection of the top choir!

 

Program Highlights

  • Each participating choir will receive a commemorative plaque, and the top two choirs will receive a cash prize to further their program ($750/$250).
  • The sight-reading portion is integral to the event fulfilling Meritáge Vocal Arts Ensemble’s mission to support music education in the community.
  • The festival will conclude with a joint performance with all choirs, an encore performance from the top two ensembles, and a closing performance with the host, Meritage Vocal Arts Ensemble.
  • Recording of the complete festival, along with recorded or written comments from the adjudicators, will be given to each program. 
  • A press release will be published upon completion of the Festival.

Your Application

  • Selection into the Festival will be by a rigorous, blind submission process.
  • Please select and upload a live/unedited  recording from 2023 (either Spring or Fall). 
  • We will then select the pool of participants from these recordings.
  • Complete at least the first 8 fields in the application form below. (You can always send us your repertoire and special requirements at a later date.) 
  • APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINE – DECEMBER 1st.
